French Connection I & II (2-disc) (Blu-ray)

French Connection 2-Pack

The story of the two streetwise NYC narcotics detectives Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle (Gene Hackman) and Buddy "Cloudy" Russo (Roy Scheider) and their fierce struggle to unravel "the French connection" and nail the mastermind, the French drug lord Alain "Frog no. 1" Charnier (Fernando Rey), could easily have become a fairly ordinary crime if it hadn't been for William Friedkin's sense of detail and realism. As one of the first American crime films, it is exclusively shot on-location without the use of studio footage. As forarbejde, Hackman, Scheider and Friedkin joined police patrols in the worst neighborhoods in New York and even participated in arrests!
In 1971, the film was awarded with five Oscars for i.a. Best Film, Best Direction (William Friedkin) and Best Actor (Gene Hackman).
